The plan is to lay the paving, including the carriageway, using fired clinkers. This will ensure that the carriageway becomes more integrated into the shopping area and that motorists are more likely to slow down. In addition, the raised pavement will be removed because the carriageway will be raised as a whole, bringing the road to the same level as the pavement. This will create one large, raised square.
The drainage on both sides of the carriageway and a subtle variation in the paving of the clinker bricks ensure that the carriageway is clearly distinguishable. The carriageway, paved with fired cobblestones, continues to the junction with Bogaardslaan and then turns the corner onto Bogaardslaan as far as the chemist’s. From the junction towards Molecatenlaan, it becomes an asphalt road again. Nothing will change there; a new layer of asphalt will simply be laid.
We’re also going to make the street greener. We’ll be planting trees and creating larger planting areas in a few places, to create a more pleasant streetscape. We’ll be planting at the end of 2024.
Additional parking spaces are being added around the Albert Heijn due to the shop’s expansion. The angled parking spaces at the former CODA site and opposite it at the Albert Heijn will be removed and replaced with parking spaces running parallel to the carriageway. Ultimately, there will be more parking spaces than there are at present.
The road north of the Albert Heijn will become one-way, so there will be less traffic here than there is at present. That’s also good news because the new entrance to the Albert Heijn will be at the end of this little street.
We are installing cycle racks at various shops in the area. Albert Heijn is also creating more space for cycle parking than is currently available. New benches will also be installed at various locations in the town centre.
We are removing the bus stop on Bogaardslaan because the bus no longer runs. The local bus that is still operating is allowed to stop anywhere, so a bus stop is no longer needed.
