Frames

• The Griftzone will remain intact, in accordance with agreements with the Water Board;
  The Grift Zone (40 metres) is set out in the 2007 Water Plan. This plan was adopted by the Water Board’s executive committee and by the municipal council. The Water Plan has a duration of 30 years. The zone is measured from the outer edge (the westernmost edge of the tarmac) of the Vlijtseweg carriageway.

• Retention of existing trees. The two trees near the Edisonlaan junction are an exception. These are in fair condition.

Design principles

• As well as meeting basic requirements such as safety, directness, efficiency and comfort, the Vlijtseweg is an attractive route.
• The street has been designed with sustainable safety in mind. One of the five sustainable safety principles is recognisability. This means that the layout and appearance of the road must be recognisable to road users in order to encourage the desired behaviour.
• Clear zoning and cohesion.
• A simple basic profile (cross-section) that can accommodate any exceptions to ensure continuity along the entire length. This creates a sense of calm, order and naturalness.
