Event traffic controller

It is mandatory to hold a valid training certificate and a valid appointment from the local authority in which the event is taking place whilst directing traffic. Every event traffic warden deployed for an event is appointed on an individual basis. All event traffic controllers therefore follow the same training and are eligible for an appointment of up to one year. The organiser must be able to present an up-to-date list of traffic controllers to the supervisor or the police during the event.

To be eligible for a position as a traffic warden, you must complete a training course. The process is as follows.

  1. The event organiser registers the event on the Traffic Controller Exam website. You will also find a guide for organisers here.
  2. Municipal staff will be notified of the registration and must approve the event.
  3. Once the registration has been approved, the organiser will be notified.
  4. The organiser can now invite the traffic marshals to the event. In the manual on the Traffic Controller Exam website explains how to do this.
  5. Once everyone has followed the instructions, the local authority will be notified. Once this has been approved, the organiser will receive a notification.

  • It is not possible to apply as an individual. Only the organiser of an event or activity may apply for a traffic warden appointment.
  • On the Traffic Controller Exam website You take care of everything. This means there is no need to submit a separate application to the local council.
  • An event traffic controller must be able to produce proof of identity (an identity card or passport) upon request by the police.
